to design a simple structure within a certain budget – emphasis on keeping as much of the natural bush as possible as well as openness

a simple, but generous one of subtraction in order to get as much exposure to northern light and the view to the dam and the natural vegetation on the site

  • to create an inviting access, the front door was designed on a partial split level and the walkway of timber suspended to create a bridge over the natural vegatation
  • when completed the house had a  total feel of  harmony with the environment
  • the roof over  the bedrooms on the top level has  deep extended overhangs to shade the glazing
  • a frameless glass balustrades were install on the balconies, in  order to take full advantage of  the view over the roodeplaat dam
